Scholarship@Dal Libraries - Predatory (aka Deceptive) Publishing
Have you ever been invited to publish in a journal or by a publisher you’ve never heard of, possibly one that is not even related to your field of research? Bad news: those flattering messages probably come from a publisher preying on your hard work. Predatory publishers disguise themselves as legitimate academic journals and book publishers. However, they do not uphold a rigorous peer review process and high standards for scholarship - they just want to take your money.
By the end of this session, participants will:
-
Recognize common characteristics of predatory publishers
-
Appreciate the differences between predatory and legitimate publishing practices
-
Make informed decisions about where to submit their work
This session will not be recorded.
