More Data, More Problems: Ethical Considerations for Human Data

More Data, More Problems: Ethical Considerations for Human Data

Presenter(s):
Hannah, Melissa, Angela

"To destroy or not to destroy?” is just one of the many ethical considerations for researchers when dealing with human data. Whether you are planning to collect data directly from participants or use secondary data in your research there are a number of things to consider throughout your research process. Ethical data starts with collection and extends through all data related actions: storage, protection, analysis, and sharing. This session will give you an overview of complexities of managing human research data through a series of tips that you can use when planning your research project and in completing your ethics requirements.

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand a variety of ethical considerations for research data
  • Be able to apply knowledge and tips from this session in your Research Data Management Plan and ethics application
  • Identify allies and tools at Dalhousie University that can assist you with developing and using good human research data practices.
