Data Literacy Lunchless Learn - Session 1
Get the background you need… to understand the use of data and statistics
The best way to understand data is to play with it. We will use personal data and institutional data to explore the fundamentals of data literacy. This session will include the basic principles of effective data visualization and use these principles to show patterns.
Concepts: collecting, cleaning and displaying data; common graphs and charts; meaning of variable; fractions, percentages and ratios; primary and secondary sources; and data distribution.
Bio: Gwen MacNairn is our Coordinator for Data & GIS Services. She enjoys the granular nature of data and encourages researchers to seek a balance between micro and macro coding schemes.
