Screening of Catherine Martin's documentary film, Basket Maker, with panel discussion.
Please join the Dalhousie Libraries for the screening of Catherine Martin’s documentary film, Basket Maker, in the MacMechan Auditorium, Killam Memorial Library, on February 1st @ 6:30 p.m. A panel discussion, with basket makers Margaret Peltier, Ursula Johnson and Della Maguire, will follow the screening. This event will also be livestreamed.
Basket Maker is a journey from past to present with a compilation of footage from Catherine Martin's personal film images as well as archival footage of Mi'kmaw women basket makers. "It is like having a good visit with those women basket makers who influenced me early in my life.”, said film maker, Catherine Martin. The film honors them for the contribution made to our families and nation as entrepreneurs and keepers of ancient knowledge.
Catherine Martin is an award winning Mi’kmaw documentary film maker and Dalhousie’s Director of Indigenous Community Engagement.
In advance of the film screening, we will celebrate Apuknajit, the Mi’kmaw Mid-Winter Feast, in the Ko’jua Okuom, Killam Memorial Library, starting at 4:30 p.m.
The film screening and panel discussion will also be livestreamed. https://livestream.com/accounts/3481024/events/10752056
