Love Data Week: Get efficient with Excel's Flash Fill Feature in less than 30 minutes!
Learn to use Excel’s flash fill feature to magically pull apart or put together text or code that has a logical pattern. You could use flash fill to extract first names from a column containing full names, grab the middle digits from Statistics Canada’s geographic codes, or combine multiple columns together while seamlessly ignoring blank cells.
Technical requirements: This session is very beginner friendly: you won’t need any special Excel knowledge to join in. Flash fill is available in Excel versions 2016+. This session will have a hands-on component, for the best experience, please join with a web-enabled device that has a desktop / app version of Excel.
About your presenter: Julie Marcoux is a data librarian based at the Killam Library who enjoys helping students, faculty, and researchers navigate the confusing world of datasets and statistics in order to find the data they need for their projects. She occasionally uses a bit of programming skills on projects such as creating an Excel file (with a menu with buttons that work!) for use in teaching advanced Excel functions.
