Find publicly available data in data portals in less than 30 minutes!
Publicly available data shared by multiple levels of governments across the world are hosted in various open data portals. But even though most of this data is meant to be yours to take for your own uses, it can be surprisingly hard to find data portals and the datasets they contain aren’t always indexed in search engines. Learn to locate and navigate open data portals and practice with an exercise, all in under 30 minutes.
About your presenter: Julie Marcoux is a data librarian based at the Killam Library who enjoys helping students, faculty, and researchers navigate the confusing world of datasets and statistics in order to find the data they need for their projects. She occasionally uses a bit of programming skills on projects such as creating an Excel file (with a menu with buttons that work!) for use in teaching advanced Excel functions.
