Love Data Week: Get efficient with Excel's XLookup Formula in less than 30 minutes!
What do Vlookup, Index and Match, and XLookup all have in common? They’re Excel formulas that can be used to avoid duplicating your own work by “looking up” information in a reference table, or used to check whether or not an entry in a list is also available in another list. However, XLookup has a serious problem: it’s so new that few people realize it exists despite its wonderful flexibility and in-built error handling!
Technical requirements: The hands-on component of this session will be most appreciated by those of you that are able to manually enter a formula in Excel, regardless of whether you’ve ever created a Vlookup or Index/Match formula or know what those are. XLookup is only available in Excel for Microsoft 365, Excel 2021, or Excel for the web. This session will have a hands-on component, for the best experience, please join with a web-enabled device that has a desktop / app version of Excel.
About your presenter: Julie Marcoux is a data librarian based at the Killam Library who enjoys helping students, faculty, and researchers navigate the confusing world of datasets and statistics in order to find the data they need for their projects. She occasionally uses a bit of programming skills on projects such as creating an Excel file (with a menu with buttons that work!) for use in teaching advanced Excel functions.
